Ben Rinnes is the dominating summit of Moray and is a very popular hillwalk. The views, as might be expected, are extremely extensive, taking in much of northeast Scotland. Well-worn hill path; straightforward hillwalk in good summer conditions. There is a small car park at the bottom.
Directions from the clock tower in Dufftown: take the B9009 to Tomintoul. After app. 4 miles turn right to Ben Rinnes (signposted). After another mile you will find the car park on the left. Going up and down will take 3-4 hours.
If you would like some whisky afterwards continue on the back road and drive through Milltown of Edinvillie and find Glenallachie Distillery a few miles further down the road. Currently only the shop is open.
Alternatively continue your drive to Aberlour for lunch/picnic or shopping. From Aberlour drive further to Craigellachie and visit the Copper Dog or the Highlander Inn for a drink or a meal. In Craigellachie take the A941 to return to Dufftown.
