For a full day of visiting interesting places, walking and shopping
From Dufftown take the A941 to Craigellachie. After 3.5 miles you’ll find the Speyside Cooperage at your left hand, ample on site parking space. Learn all about the casks that are so important for making whisky and see the coopers at work.
Continue on the A941. After turning right to Elgin on the T-junction take the first right (before the bridge) and immediately the first left into a car park next to the playground. Walk under the road to the river Spey and enjoy the riverside and the wonderful Craigellachie bridge.
Continue on the A941 to the village Rothes and enjoy a coffee/lunch at the Station Hotel. Make sure to check out their whisky bar!
Leave the car in the main street in Rothes and do the Dounie walk, a nice circular 5 km/3 mile walk along distilleries, fields and wood and some amazing views.
Continue on the A941 and take the second exit on the roundabout when leaving Rothes to Mosstodloch. When arriving on the A96 take the exit to Baxters Highland Village on the roundabout for shopping Scottish food and gifts, including little museum and restaurant.
If you didn’t do the walk in Rothes you would have time to drive further up to the coast to Spey bay, where the river Spey runs into the sea. Look for amazing stones on the pebbled beach or do the 6.5 km circuit walk. Take away food and drinks available from the visitor centre.
Continue on the A96 to Keith where you turn right onto the B9014 back to Dufftown.
