Cathedral, motor museum, Scottish delicatessen and whisky

Elgin is the capital of Moray County and a 30-minute drive from Dufftown. We recommend visiting the following attractions:

Cathedral: See for yourself why Elgin Cathedral earned the name the ‘Lantern of the North’. Even as a ruin, the cathedral shines out as one of Scotland’s most ambitious and beautiful medieval buildings. Open from 21 August, pre booking required.

Moray Motor Museum: houses a superb collection of veteran, vintage, classic cars and motorbikes.

Glen Moray Distillery: shop and tasting only, coffeeshop open.

Gordon & MacPhail: water mouth-watering shop equipped with quality delicatessen featuring local produce and the largest selection of the finest cheeses available in North East Scotland. On the shelves, you will find a fantastic array of indulgent hand finished chocolates, high quality grocery products, wines, and spirits. No visit to our shop would be complete without a visit to the Whisky Room. Stocking around 1000 different single malt whiskies, the Whisky Room attracts customers from throughout the world. Browsing through the wide selection of whiskies, many of which are very old and extremely rare, is like entering the Aladdin’s Cave of whisky. They also offer in-store tastings.

If you are not doing all activities mentioned you could combine a visit to Elgin with a visit to the harbour village Lossiemouth (10-minute drive from Elgin).
